About the Speaker

KAREN BRODKIN is professor-emeritus at the University of California Los Angeles anthropology and woman’s studies departments. Brodkins graduated from Brandeis in 1963 and earned an M.A. from Harvard (1964) and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan (1971). She directed the UCLA woman’s studies program (1987-1993) and also worked as a research director for the Business and Professional Women’s Foundation. Her subfields within the anthropology department include contemporary social movements, race, gender and work. Her research focuses include social movements, gender, work and kinship, political economy, theory, migration, race and contemporary North American cultures.
