You Can Just Imagine What We'll Do if You Mess with Our Families: political strikes and contract negotiationsPresented by John Ahlquist, IRLE Postdoctoral Fellow
|
About the speaker
John Ahlquist is a 2008-09 postdoctoral fellow at the IRLE. He will be joining the political science faculty at Florida State University in the Fall. John received his PhD in political science from the University of Washington in 2008 and BA from UC Berkeley in 1998. His research examines how different societies balance demands for insurance and redistribution with incentives for making the risky investments that are the engines of growth and employment. Current projects include explaining the divergent wage bargaining institutions in rich democracies; understanding why some unions sustain political militance over long periods of time; explaining different social spending priorities in the developing world; and improving statistical models of network data. His published work has appeared in Comparative Political Studies, International Studies Quarterly, and Regulation & Governance.
- Read one of Professor Ahlquist's working papers:"Building Strategic Capacity: the Political Underpinnings of Coordinated Wage Bargaining."
This event is co-sponsored with the Department of Political Science.
