Lauren Appelbaum

Lauren Appelbaum is the Research Director for the Institute for Research on Labor and Employment, at the University of California, Los Angeles. Previously she was a Research Scientist at the National Center for Children in Poverty at Columbia University and held teaching positions at Fairleigh Dickinson University and Claremont McKenna College. Her training is in political psychology and her previous research has focused on anti-poverty policy and attitudes toward families in need of aid. Dr. Appelbaum has also examined anti-immigrant attitudes in the United States and in Europe as well as labor issues, such as the effects of work organization on worker commitment. Her research has been published in Political Psychology and Social Justice Research. Dr. Appelbaum’s current work focuses on economic downturns and stress, paid leave and maternal well-being, and green jobs among other research areas.
